“They needed someone to hit the ground running, and while I didn’t have any prior experience in audio equipment, I was able to very quickly learn the ins-and-outs of the industry and exceed my job requirements almost immediately.”
July 2021 – April 2022
My Role(s): Technical Writer
Additional Task(s): Office Organization, Infrastructure Improvements
I worked in the engineering department directly with the engineers. My job was to convey all of the technical information of McIntosh’s high-end audio equipment in the equipment’s included documentation in a way that could be universally understood and do so in a way that didn’t bore the user. To do this, there was a lot I needed to learn. They needed someone to hit the ground running, and while I didn’t have any prior experience in audio equipment, I was able to very quickly learn the ins-and-outs of the industry and exceed my job requirements almost immediately. I wanted to have firsthand knowledge of how everything worked so I could make sure the translated information came across accurately. During this process, I also had to test and troubleshoot the equipment both to get a better step-by-step understanding of its features, as well as make sure everything worked as the engineers described. In addition to the language, I was also responsible for creating many of the diagrams included in the documentation, such as connections and labels.
I also began the endeavor to streamline the documentation process throughout the company. I worked with my supervisor to start implementing a more digitally-focused environment, both for environmental purposes as well as productivity efficiency.
– Learned an unfamiliar fast-paced industry and its production processes and took over an active role in enough time to not bottleneck production.
– Improved employer satisfaction with the quality of included documentation.
– Created many highly technical, lengthy, and detailed documents in a technically challenging field, and completed all of them well before the deadline.
– Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
– Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
