About the Game

In Corporeal began as a game jam project that ranked 11th out of 950 entries—praised for its unique mechanic, thoughtful level design, and strong atmosphere. The Steam version is a complete ground-up reimagining, built from scratch and expanded into a commercial release.

This version keeps the soul of the original concept, but overhauls every system to deliver a polished, responsive, and narratively rich experience.

Key Development Features

🧠 Reprogrammed from Scratch

The entire game codebase was rewritten, including a robust, modular character controller that supports:

  • Separate physics tuning for human and ghost states

  • Features like wall jumping, manual revive, vertical flight, and contextual movement restrictions

  • Inspector-driven debugging and ability toggles (e.g., CanManualRevive, HasVerticalFlight) for flexible testing and iteration

💡 Evolved Light Mechanics

The original jam concept—using light to return from ghost form—now includes:

  • Raycast-based obstruction detection, allowing players to manipulate the environment (e.g., push blocks or use moving platforms) to cast or block light

  • Puzzle design that blends movement, timing, and light interactions for strategic play

🎥 Cinematic Systems

  • Cinemachine-powered dynamic cameras with context-aware framing and transitions

  • Timeline-driven cutscenes with fully controllable sequences and effects

  • Seamless in-game narration integrated into gameplay, blending story and challenge

💾 Save & Load System

  • Checkpoint-based and persistent saving

  • All acquired abilities and game progress retained across sessions

🎙️ Fully-Voiced Story

  • Rich, introspective narrative brought to life by voiced monologues and conversations

  • Dual-character performance dynamically reacting to player progress and game mechanics

  • The narrative screenplay (40+ pages) explores themes of recovery, self-confrontation, and accountability
